About the Department/School/Area

The School of Music is NASM accredited and offers the B.A. in Music, the B.M. in Music with concentrations in Music Education, Composition, Performance, and Theory, the M.M. in Music Education, the M.M. in Music with concentrations in Composition, Conducting, Music Theory, Musicology, Piano Pedagogy, and Performance, the D.M.A. with tracks in Composition, Conducting, Performance, and Piano Pedagogy, the Ph.D. in Music Education, the Ph.D. in Fine Arts with concentrations in Arts Administration, Music Education, Musicology, and Music Theory, the Undergraduate Minor in Music, Undergraduate Certificates in Community Arts Entrepreneurship, Jazz Studies, and World Music, and Graduate Certificates in Early Music Performance Practice, Woodwind Specialty and Piano Pedagogy. A faculty of 61 full-time professors serves approximately 335 undergraduate students and 175 students involved in graduate study. Major/Essential Functions

At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the School of Music, you will be expected to:
Recruit and retain students for the MM collaborative piano degree and certificate programs in the areas of instrumental and vocal music
Lead and oversee all collaborative piano curriculum and activities
Teach lessons, mentor and advise a studio of MM collaborative piano students, including studio classes
Oversee and coordinate all graduate assistants who serve as collaborative pianists in support of the instrumental and voice/opera areas
Recommend collaborative assignments for faculty collaborative pianists and vocal coaches to the director
Teach courses related to collaborative piano
Perform collaborative piano needs to support the School of Music

Faculty Qualifications

An earned doctorate in collaborative piano, piano performance, or closely related area prior to the start date
Demonstrated experience teaching applied, one-on-one collaborative piano lessons and courses in collaborative piano.
Relevant professional activity and experience that demonstrates emerging or established national/international recognition in the field of Collaborative Piano.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
Evidence of skills to work across schools in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Proven ability to recruit and retain a talented and diverse cohort of students to collaborative piano programs within the School of Music.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
A record of success in recruiting and program building for a collaborative piano program.
Ability and desire to engage in service activities such as curricular review and programmatic assessment, overseeing the collaborative piano area, coordinating student assignments, and serving on committees as necessary.
