Job Description
Daily WorkOn a typical day, you will monitor cloud services, endpoints, and networks to prevent/detect breaches and other security issues. You may install and manage firewalls, configure or monitor applications and services, perform pentests, communicate with other internal stakeholders to assess and improve security, or support audit, assessment, or compliance efforts. Every day you will collaborate with your teammates (other Analysts, Engineers, and Student Analysts) to support enterprise-wide security initiatives.
To thrive in this position, you should enjoy solving problems, be able to track and actively manage your time appropriately in response to changing priorities. You should enjoy working independently or collaborating in a group setting, have strong written and verbal communication skills, enjoy researching cybersecurity topics, awareness, and best practices, and feel comfortable collaborating and presenting in person or online with both your peers and others across university departments. You should have a passion for learning and growing.
Because this position is typically a frontline role with significant customer interaction and provides training and support to internal and external customers, strong communication and time management skills are expected. Diplomacy and an interest in collaborative problem solving and project management will be beneficial in this role. Familiarity with programming or scripting languages and use of those in automation and orchestration is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e., Information Technology or other related field) and 4 years progressively responsible experience, OR an equivalent combination of training, education, and documented professional experience.
Desired: Industry-recognized certifications (like CompTIA, (ISC)2, SANS).
Travel and on-call required.
Position Details:
This position is located at the University of Alaska system office in Fairbanks, AK, and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This position can also be remote within Alaska. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.
