Job Description
Job SummaryThe Systems Engineer delivers technical support, designs, installs, configures, integrates, maintains, diagnoses, and implements corrective actions for information and communication technology infrastructure systems. The position optimizes performance, ensures seamless operation, and supports the department’s mission of providing reliable and secure technology services.
Job Duties
Design, configure, and deploy systems infrastructure to meet the organization’s business needs, ensuring high availability, scalability, performance, and adherence to security best practices.
Collaborate with the IT team and stakeholders to analyze system requirements, define system architecture, and develop scalable and reliable technical solutions.
Implement and maintain hardware and software components of systems infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking equipment, virtualization technologies, and cloud platforms, ensuring operational reliability and integrating required security controls.
Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely resolutions to maintain system reliability and availability.
Conduct regular system backups and support Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) efforts to protect against data loss and ensure the security of critical systems.
Research, develop, and improve system installation, configuration, maintenance, and security standards, incorporating compliance with organizational and industry cybersecurity frameworks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requested Minimum Qualifications
Education:
A Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems,
Information Technology, or related field from an accredited college or university is required.
Experience:
Relevant professional experience in IT or a related field.
Experience working in consultancy or higher education industries.
Other Preferences for Consideration
Experience Preferred:
Proficiency in areas such as LAN/WAN router and switch administration, VLAN/VxLAN, firewalls, Microsoft Active
Directory / Entra ID, Azure, virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix), software patch management, backup & recovery tools, and scripting (e.g. PowerShell).
Hands-on experience with converged systems, clustering, load balancing, and virtual networking.
Proficiency in collaborating with vendors for hardware and software configuration.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
A. The candidate must possess a combination of the following:
KNOWLEDGE:
IT industry standards and best practices in design, implementation, and maintenance of technology products and services.
(Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile, or other process methodologies.
Server, network, and storage systems technologies, architecture, and protocols; (4) LAN/WAN management functions and procedures, including network documentation, performance, and security management.
Coud and virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix, and Microsoft Azure; (6) computer hardware maintenance, troubleshooting techniques, and safety practices for working with electronic equipment
Software patch management, backup and recovery tools, and scripting (e.g., PowerShell); (8) converged systems, including blade systems, clustering, load balancing, and virtual networking.
Collaboration with vendors to ensure accurate configuration of hardware and software.
SKILLS:
Excellent customer service, including strong verbal and written communication; (2) installation, configuration, diagnosis, and performing corrective actions for computers, servers, and software platforms.
Reading, interpreting, and applying technical instructions and diagrams.
ABILITIES:

Provide technical guidance and instruction to others; (5) remain in a stationary position, traverse, position self in tight spaces, and transport equipment up to 50 pounds.
