Job Description
Job DescriptionThe University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine is recruiting a Staff Research Associate 2 for the Microbiology and Immunology Department. *** This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. *** This position will serve as a research assistant for a biomedical research laboratory focused on studies related to the pathogenesis of invasive candidiasis and translational studies on antifungal drug discovery. Work will be performed in a research program within a laboratory environment requiring a practical knowledge of the methods and techniques of one or more of the biological sciences.
The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, reliable, and committed to scientific integrity and ethical research practices. They should possess strong independent work skills while also being able to collaborate effectively in a team environment. Exceptional hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and agility are essential for laboratory tasks, along with the physical capability to perform activities that may require extended periods of activity.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the required area of specialization and one (1) year of professional research experience either in the field or in a laboratory; OR
One (1) year of experience as a Staff Research Associate I in Nevada State service, OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

This position requires laboratory work experience in microbiology, organic chemistry, or related science.
Preferred Qualification
Master’s or PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, or a related field with at least one (1) year of laboratory experience
Expertise in molecular biology and/or cell biology
Experience with yeast and Candida albicans genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology methods
Knowledge of Candida albicans pathogenesis assays, particularly those related to biofilms
Ability to refine and design scientific experiments
Schedule or Travel Requirements
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
