Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Mathematics and Physics within the College of Arts and Sciences promotes North Carolina Central University’s commitment to excellence in instruction, research, and service offering programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree and the Master of Science degree each in mathematics and in physics. In addition, the Department offers all General Education Curriculum courses in mathematics as well as in physics.
Primary Purpose of Position
To perform the duties of NCCU faculty at the rank of Lecturer. Primary duties include teaching GEC mathematics and physics courses.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent teaching skills; ability work both independently and collaboratively with others; strong knowledge base in mathematics
Ability to engage in effective and respectful communication both written and oral.
Ability to provide instruction in mathematics (at all levels including undergraduate and graduate) and lower division computational courses using evidence-based or research-based pedagogical instruction.
Ability to create a sustainable research program of interest funding agencies.
Ability to effectively interact with colleagues and supervise student researchers.
Minimum Education/Experience
Master’s degree from an accredited college/university, preferably in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or Science Education
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation

Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Normal duties of this faculty position include teaching, research, and service. More specifically, the duties will include: (1) teaching a range of mathematics courses at the undergraduate level, computer and computational science courses, and graduate level courses as appropriate; responsible for delivering engaging lectures, developing course materials, and assessing student learning.
A primary duty is teaching GEC mathematics courses. Additional duties include academic advising, holding office hours as well as other normal duties and functions of NCCU faculty at the rank of Lecturer
Function Research
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Seek independent funding and build a sustainable research program. Lead or co-lead independent scholarly research and publication in the discipline, supervise undergraduate and graduate research in the department. conduct original research in their field of mathematics and publish their findings in academic journals or research conferences.
Function Public Service
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Contribute to the department, the College of Health and Sciences and the university through service projects and committee activities. Academic advising, holding office hours as well as other normal duties and functions of NCCU faculty at the rank of lecturer; may participate in university events such as graduations and recruitment activities.
