College/Department Information
The Office of Legal Affairs is Augusta University's in-house legal counsel. Attorneys in the Office of Legal Affairs provide legal advice and counseling to the University through its administrators, faculty, and staff in the course of their duties on behalf of the University.
The Augusta University Legal Affairs Office provides advice on a variety of topics including contracts, employment and discretionary issues, inventions, copyrights and other intellectual property, and risk management. In addition to providing legal counseling to the University, other areas of responsibility for the Office of Legal Affairs include policy interpretation and advice, administration of the University's grievance and dispute resolution procedures, contract review, and - in conjunction with the Attorney General - management of actual or threatened litigation in which the University is involved. The Office of Legal Affairs is also available to provide training and informative programs on legal issues applicable to units of the University.
Job Summary
This position will be fulltime onsite on the Health Sciences Campus and will provide support to the General Counsel and the Office; help manage other office staff; coordinate all office operations to include budgets, funding requests, travel requests and reimbursement forms; coordinate contract review by attorneys and routing for signatures; management of Open Records requests in coordination with attorneys; and assistance in managing litigation files and requests.

The duties include, but are not limited to:
COMPLIANCE WITH PATIENT/FAMILY-CENTERED CARE STANDARDS: Demonstrates dignity and respect for patient and family for patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural background in the planning and delivery of care. Provides information sharing, ensuring patients and families receive timely, complete, and accurate information in order to effectively participate in care and decision-making. Encourages patient and family participation in care and decision-making at the level they choose. Promotes collaboration with patients and families in policy and program development, implementation, and evaluation in health care facility design, professional education, and delivery of care.
COMPLIANCE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE STANDARDS: Administrative - Coordinate the operations of the Office of Legal Affairs, manage the office budget, and supervise the other office staff. Contractual - Process contracts with third parties, working with the attorneys in the Office of Legal Affairs and other campus offices (e.g., the faculty investigator, Tech Transfer, Sponsored Programs, Clinical Investigative Services, etc.).
OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned and assist and support the General Counsel.
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three years' related experience in a legal or administrative setting
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or paralegal certificate or equivalent experience in a legal setting; or experience managing contracts and/or litigation.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
General knowledge of legal matters and business operations of a legal office
SKILLS
Excellent skills in negotiation, customer service, communication and dispute
ABILITIES
Ability to make judgment calls regarding assignment of legal tasks
Ability to manage electronic tracking and storing systems.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday-Friday (Work outside of regular business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B11
Salary: $56,600/annually - $62,513.79/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum midpoint) of the position.

Conditions of Employment
